Porthos (CO2 TransPorts) is a Dutch carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure project for the Rotterdam industrial cluster. Established as a joint venture of EBN, Gasunie and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, it develops and operates open-access transport and storage facilities to help industrial emitters reduce CO2 emissions.
The system includes a shared onshore pipeline network across the port area, CO2 conditioning and compression at Maasvlakte, and an offshore pipeline to an injection platform for permanent storage in depleted gas fields in the Dutch North Sea. Initial capacity is about 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year, with total storage potential in the tens of millions of tonnes over the project life. Launch customers include Air Liquide, Air Products, ExxonMobil and Shell. First operations are targeted for the mid-2020s, subject to permitting and construction.
