About Nordsøfonden

Nordsøfonden (the Danish North Sea Fund) is Denmark’s state-owned company that holds and manages the government’s participation in subsurface licenses on the Danish Continental Shelf. Its core mandate covers exploration and production of oil and gas as well as emerging activities in carbon capture and storage (CCS), with a focus on safe, responsible resource management and long-term value for the state.

Acting as a non-operating partner, Nordsøfonden participates in offshore license partnerships, contributes subsurface expertise, and helps align projects with Danish regulatory and climate frameworks. In addition to legacy petroleum assets, the company is involved in CO₂ storage licensing in the Danish North Sea, supporting the build-out of infrastructure that industrial emitters can use to permanently store captured CO₂. This role places Nordsøfonden at the intersection of energy transition and heavy-industry decarbonization relevant to the wider chemical and process sectors.
