Nordsøfonden

About Nordsøfonden

Nordsøfonden is Denmark’s state-owned company that holds and manages the Danish state’s participation in subsurface licenses on the Danish continental shelf. Established by law in 2005, it acts as a non-operating partner in the exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas in the North Sea, financing and administering the state’s equity share alongside commercial operators.

The fund also represents the state in offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) licenses under the Danish Subsoil Act, supporting the build-out of CO₂ storage infrastructure relevant to industrial decarbonization. Nordsøfonden focuses on responsible resource management, safety, and efficient decommissioning. It is not a regulator; rather, it collaborates with operators and authorities to ensure compliance and best practice across hydrocarbon and CCS projects.
