About Energinet

Energinet is Denmark’s state-owned transmission system operator (TSO) for electricity and gas. It plans, builds, owns, and operates the national high-voltage power grid and the gas transmission network to ensure secure, efficient energy supply and well-functioning wholesale markets.

The company integrates large volumes of renewable energy—especially offshore wind—by expanding grid capacity, connecting offshore assets, and operating cross-border interconnectors with neighboring countries. It enables market coupling, balancing and ancillary services, and supports the injection of green gases such as biomethane into the grid.

Energinet also coordinates the development of Denmark’s future hydrogen and Power-to-X infrastructure, including concepts for a hydrogen backbone and repurposing parts of the gas grid to connect electrolysers, industrial clusters, and export routes. Its integrated planning of electricity and molecule networks is central to decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors, including chemicals, while maintaining affordability and security of supply.
