Bayer's $2.2bn Ohio build | Arkema expands Lyon battery centre | Nextchem lands China urea licence

Several new capacity investments were announced across chemicals this week. Bayer committed $2.2bn to a pharmaceutical manufacturing site in New Albany, Ohio, Air Liquide earmarked over €170m for ultra-high-purity gases to serve Japan's chip expansion, and Arkema will add €10m to its battery materials centre near Lyon. In specialties, Momentive began local production of its NXT P97 silane in Chennai. The week's main corporate story was AkzoNobel's sale of its South East Asian Decorative Paints business to Nippon Paint for $1.35bn, extending the two companies' earlier dealings. More below.
