YPF Eni XRG Argentina LNG Vaca Muerta FLNG Development
New construction · Argentina · FEED / Pre-FID
Project of the week
Eni chief executive Claudio Descalzi met Argentine President Javier Milei in Paris during Argentina Week to review Argentina LNG, the export project Eni is developing with YPF and XRG. At the same event XRG chairman Sultan Al Jaber said XRG backs Argentina's bid to become a major global LNG supplier.
The first phase would turn Vaca Muerta shale gas into 12 million tonnes of LNG a year on two 6 Mtpa floating liquefaction units off Río Negro province. The partners expect a final investment decision by the end of 2026 and first production in 2030. An expansion to 18 Mtpa is under evaluation.

Where it stands
Front-End Engineering Design is underway (FEL-3). Scope and engineering are being firmed up toward a sanction-quality cost estimate (typically ±10–15%). The project is well defined but not yet financially sanctioned — the "pre-FID" phase.
