BioBTX breaks ground on circular aromatics | Catalyxx's €120M Sines plant | Saipem's ~€800m Eni contracts

BioBTX started construction of its PETRA plant — the first commercial-scale facility converting plastic waste directly into renewable aromatics — while Catalyxx will build a €120M renewable chemicals plant at Sines. Investment flowed into decarbonization and specialties too: Ercros secured a €20M loan for decarbonisation works at its Tarragona complex, Air Liquide committed over $150M to a new industrial-gas plant in Idaho for memory-chip supply, and Saipem picked up roughly €800m in Eni contracts spanning offshore and its Venice biorefinery. Sustainable Feedstocks & Circularity

Waste-to-value projects gained momentum: BioBTX sanctioned the first commercial-scale plant to directly convert plastic waste into renewable aromatics, while Aurora is restarting the Empyro plant in Hengelo with an upgrader to supply bio‑based intermediates. In Portugal, Catalyxx will convert bioethanol into butanol, hexanol and octanol at Sines, and DHL secured sustainable aviation fuel from waste and residue feedstocks for its Madrid hub.
