Project Overview
Worley is providing detailed design and procurement services for a low-carbon fuels facility at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The facility aims to produce 820,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel annually, making it one of the largest in Europe.
Environmental Impact
The renewable diesel produced could avoid 2.8 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, equivalent to removing over 1 million European cars from the roads. The fuels will be made from waste materials such as used cooking oil, certified sustainable vegetable oils, waste animal fat, and other industrial and agricultural residues.
Production and Technology
Using advanced technology developed by Shell, the facility will produce renewable diesel and SAF for blending, supporting EU legislation and commitments under the Paris Agreement. The project is expected to start production in 2024.
Project Management
Worley will lead the project from its office in The Hague, with support from its Global Integrated Delivery team. The collaboration between Shell and Worley over the past 18 months has been crucial in defining the project as an integrated team using new ways of working.
