WACKER Increases Silicone Prices

Key highlights
  • WACKER raises silicone prices by up to 25% starting February 1.
  • Price adjustments are due to rising platinum costs.
  • Affected sectors include automotive, pharmaceutical, and energy.
  • Existing contracts will be amended as needed.

Price Increase Announcement

Starting February 1, WACKER will increase prices for various silicone products by up to 25%. In some cases, adjustments may be even higher. This change will affect existing customer contracts as needed.

Reason for Adjustment

The price hike is driven by a significant rise in commodity prices, particularly platinum, which is used as a catalyst in silicone production. The cost of platinum has more than doubled since last year, making it unsustainable for WACKER to absorb these costs through efficiency measures alone.

Impacted Sectors

The price adjustments will primarily impact customers in the automotive, pharmaceutical, medical technology, electrical engineering, energy transmission, and release coating sectors. Products affected include addition-curing silicone rubber grades, silicone resins, silanes, and silicone-based release coatings.
