WACKER: ceramifying silicone and 1.6/2.4 W/mK potting compounds for BEV thermal protection

- Both potting grades feature optimized rheology to minimise filler sedimentation and can be redispersed using standard mixing equipment after adverse storage.
- ELASTOSIL® R 531/60 is an extrudable ceramifying silicone rubber for busbar insulation that forms a ceramic layer in fire to maintain electrical insulation.

WACKER will exhibit battery-safety solutions at the Battery Show in Stuttgart (June 9–11) at Booth 1‑K45 in Hall 1. The company highlights a ceramifying silicone for thermal barriers and thermally conductive potting compounds designed for power‑electronics thermal management. Several products are formulated to resist sedimentation and can be processed after prolonged storage without complex pretreatment.
New potting compounds
ELASTOSIL® RT 7616 TC and ELASTOSIL® RT 7624 TC are filled, addition‑curing silicone elastomers that cure at room temperature, enabling oven‑free processing of large components. Their thermal conductivities are 1.6 W/mK and 2.4 W/mK respectively. Viscosities are 5,500 and 8,000 mPa•s (DIN 53019), permitting bubble‑free filling of gaps down to a few hundred micrometres. Rheology has been optimised to prevent sedimentation and agglomeration; any settled fillers can be redispersed with standard mixing equipment. Applications include battery chargers, DC/DC converters and inverters for managing heat of discrete components such as coils and inductors.
Silicones for electromobility
WACKER’s portfolio on show includes SILRES® MK, a condensation‑curing methyl silicone resin for binder or impregnation of mica-, glass‑ or mineral‑fiber laminates used in mechanical and thermal barriers. ELASTOSIL® CM 18x grades are room‑curing potting compounds for side and top potting of cells, offering electrical and thermal insulation plus mechanical support while preserving pressure‑relief vent function. ELASTOSIL® R 531/60 is an extrudable, ceramifying silicone rubber for busbar insulation that forms a ceramic layer in fire to keep busbars electrically insulated.
