VTTI and Connex enter FEED for Greenstock Pretreatment Facility in Amsterdam

Key highlights
  • Project has entered Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) aiming for operational start in 2029.
  • Facility will be capable of processing over 400,000 tonnes of renewable feedstocks per year.
  • Feedstocks include animal fats (categories 1–3), used cooking oil and advanced oils and fats for HVO and SAF production.
  • Connex supplies feedstock sourcing expertise; VTTI provides terminal operations, logistics and storage capabilities.

FEED milestone

VTTI and Connex have progressed the Greenstock Pretreatment Facility at VTTI’s Amsterdam terminal into the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, a key step toward the facility’s planned operational launch in 2029.

Capacity and feedstocks

Once complete the facility will process over 400,000 tonnes per year of renewable feedstocks to support production of renewable diesel (HVO) and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). It will provide aggregation, blending and pretreatment for waste and residue-based feedstocks, including animal fats categories 1, 2 and 3, used cooking oil and advanced oils and fats, for both standalone and coprocessing units.

Scope of FEED

The FEED phase follows technical scoping and validation work that included laboratory and pilot-scale proof-of-concept testing. During FEED the project team will develop basic engineering, refine technical design and equipment specifications, and define the construction strategy with emphasis on safety, efficiency and long-term sustainability.

Partnership and next steps

Connex contributes renewable feedstock sourcing and market expertise while VTTI provides operational, logistics and storage capabilities. Activities during FEED will include coordination with local authorities, partnering with technology and engineering providers, securing customer contracts and meeting environmental requirements ahead of construction and commissioning.
