Uniper has signed an agreement to sell the Datteln 4 coal-fired power plant in North Rhine-Westphalia to ResInvest Group a.s. The transaction includes the coal infrastructure and associated heat generation facilities.

Plant Details

Datteln 4 is a modern hard coal-fired power station with a net electrical output of 1,052 megawatts. Commissioned in 2020, it is among the most efficient and flexible coal-fired power plants globally, supplying electricity to households, traction power to Deutsche Bahn, and district heating to several thousand homes in the northern Ruhr area. The site employs over 100 people.

Regulatory Compliance

The sale is part of the conditions Uniper must fulfill under EU state aid law. On December 20, 2022, the EU Commission approved a stabilization package for Uniper, which included structural remedies such as the sale of Datteln 4.

Next Steps

Following the signing, necessary regulatory approvals will be obtained. Once granted, the transaction will be completed. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
