Nine-Month Financial Performance
Uniper's earnings for the first nine months of 2025 align with management expectations, with an adjusted EBITDA of €641 million, significantly lower than the previous year's €2,176 million. Adjusted net income also decreased to €268 million from €1,324 million in the prior year. Despite these declines, Uniper reaffirms its full-year 2025 earnings forecast.
Segment Performance
The Green Generation segment reported an adjusted EBITDA of €540 million, down from €738 million, due to lower prices in northern Sweden and the temporary shutdown of the Oskarshamn 3 nuclear power station. The Flexible Generation segment's adjusted EBITDA fell to €459 million from €1,056 million, impacted by reduced earnings from hedging and a smaller generation portfolio. The Greener Commodities segment posted an adjusted EBITDA of −€196 million, significantly below the previous year's €699 million, due to past profitable optimization activities and lack of income from replacement procurement for Russian gas.
Cash Position and Emissions
Uniper maintains a strong net cash position of €3,319 million, even after repaying €2,551 million to Germany. Direct carbon emissions reduced by 21% to 8.6 million metric tons, attributed to the cessation of operations at several coal-fired power plants and the sale of the Gönyű gas-fired power plant.
Progress on EU Remedies
Uniper continues to implement EU remedies, including the sale of Datteln 4 coal-fired power plant and Uniper Wärme GmbH. These divestments are part of structural measures required by the European Commission, with completion expected by the end of 2026.
