Petrobras Tupi asset reaches 4 billion barrels

Milestone

The Tupi asset in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin reached accumulated production of 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boed), becoming the first in the company's 73 years to hit that produced volume. The field, the first pre-salt system to enter commercial production in 2010, required a new exploratory model and pioneering technologies. The milestone coincides with 20 years of Petrobras operation in the area.

Production performance

The asset again exceeded an average production of 1 million barrels per day this year, a level first achieved in 2019. Petrobras's Business Plan 2026–30 projects total oil and gas production of 3.1–3.4 million boed and anticipates the pre-salt could account for up to 82% of the company's total production in that period. The plan aims to raise the production curve through reservoir management, improved production efficiency, increased water injection efficiency and mapping new opportunities.

Technology and partners

Operating in the ultra-deep pre-salt required overcoming technological challenges and positioned Petrobras as a reference in global oil and gas production, including on lower carbon intensity. The company says resources from pre-salt production are also used to finance its future and support a just energy transition. The Tupi asset is operated by Petrobras with partners Shell and Petrogal Brasil, and PPSA as the Union's representative in the Tupi Shared Deposit.

Infrastructure

Of Petrobras's 57 production platforms, 28 are exclusively in the pre-salt. In January 2025 the pre-salt region reached accumulated production of 7 billion barrels, of which 4 billion came from Tupi.
