Toray to build TORELINA PPS resin plant in India

Key highlights
  • Annual production capacity about 3,000 metric tons of TORELINA™ PPS resin.
  • Operations to start early 2027 with sample supplies from April 2027 and mass production to follow as soon as possible.
  • This will be Toray’s first in-house PPS compound production line in India at its Sri City, Andhra Pradesh site.
  • Toray will expand local production, sales and technical support, including a new Pune office in July 2026, to strengthen supply and service for automotive and appliance markets.

Project scope

Toray Industries (India) will build a TORELINA™ polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) resin production facility at its Sri City site in Andhra Pradesh. Annual production capacity will be around 3,000 metric tons. The resin offers heat and chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and flame retardancy.

Schedule

Operations are scheduled to start in early 2027. Toray will supply customer samples from April 2027 and aims to move to full-fledged mass production as soon as possible.

Local integration and product focus

The new line will be Toray’s first in-house PPS compound production in India and will augment existing nylon and polybutylene terephthalate compound manufacturing. Toray says the integrated in-house system will expand its engineering-plastics range for automotive electrical components and engine parts, improve design and process conditions, ensure consistent quality, accelerate production ramp-ups, and provide technical services tailored to the local market.

Strategic rationale

Toray cites India’s roughly 7% real GDP growth, rising demand for automobiles and appliances, and national initiatives such as Make in India and the Production-Linked Incentive scheme as drivers for local sourcing. The company will open a Pune office in July 2026 and positions the investment as part of its TORAY Challenges 2035 strategy to strengthen frontline capabilities and supply-chain resilience and to reinforce its PPS leadership.
