Contract award
Hive Hydrogen South Africa has selected Técnicas Reunidas to deliver the front-end engineering design (FEED) for a large green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in the Coega Special Economic Zone, adjacent to the Port of Ngqura in Nelson Mandela Bay. The facility is planned to produce about one million metric tons of green ammonia per year for domestic and export markets.
Scope of work
The FEED scope covers hydrogen production electrolyzers, air separation units, the green ammonia production loop, a desalination plant, storage systems with capacity exceeding 100,000 metric tons, pipelines to the Port of Ngqura and associated auxiliary facilities.
Commercial and financing conditions
HHSA states the FEED contractor is intended to roll forward into a full EPC contract if FEED meets the required technical and commercial outcomes and subject to project approvals, financing and a final investment decision. The projected investment for the plant is about $1.8 billion.
Strategic context
The award was announced at the Africa Green Hydrogen Summit and is presented by Técnicas Reunidas as consistent with its SALTA Strategic Plan emphasis on growing services in large-scale hydrogen, ammonia and industrial decarbonization projects.
