HHSA is 75% owned by UK-based Hive Energy and 25% by South African infrastructure developer BuiltAfrica Group. The entity has progressed through feasibility, environmental authorisations, technology selections (including Topsoe equipment), and front-end engineering design contracts, positioning the initiative as a flagship or "lighthouse" project for South Africa's green hydrogen ambitions and the EU's Global Gateway programme in the country. It is expected to support significant local employment, industrial development, and the just energy transition.
