Project overview

Air Liquide Engineering & Technologies has signed a License and Engineering agreement with Perpetual Next to supply technology and engineering services for a biomethanol facility in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. The plant is designed to produce 220,000 tonnes of biomethanol annually by converting waste wood and other organic residues into a renewable alternative to fossil methanol for the chemical industry and maritime sector.

Technology and integration

Air Liquide will provide Rectisol™ to clean and purify gas derived from biomass residues and Lurgi™ Methanol to convert the purified syngas into biomethanol. The primary engineering focus is integrating these processes so they operate reliably together at full industrial scale.

Scale-up and replicability

The Delfzijl facility serves as the first implementation of Perpetual Next’s Biomethanol Blueprint, a standardized industrial concept integrating torrefaction, gasification, syngas cleaning and methanol synthesis. The agreement includes an option to extend Rectisol™ and Lurgi™ Methanol technologies to subsequent sites, creating a replicable platform for future development.
