Perpetual Next appoints Bilfinger for Delfzijl biomethanol project

Appointment and role
Perpetual Next appointed Bilfinger as Owner's Engineer for further development of the DeltaTorr and DeltaNor projects in Delfzijl. Bilfinger will support the next development phase by coordinating technical disciplines and project partners and supporting the further elaboration of the project, with the explicit aim of advancing toward a Final Investment Decision (FID).
Project scope and feedstock
The planned factory in Delfzijl is part of Perpetual Next's ambition to produce biomethanol at large scale by converting sustainable biogenic residual streams. The company intends the biomethanol to serve as a lower-CO₂ alternative for the maritime sector and the chemical industry.
Investment and strategic impact
Full development of the project could involve investment of up to €1 billion, which the companies say would allow Delfzijl to grow into an important national location for production of sustainable fuels and raw materials. Domestic production is described as contributing to greater supply security and strategic autonomy for the Netherlands and Europe.

Perpetual Next and Bilfinger will continue, together with other partners and stakeholders, the technical and organisational elaboration of the project as they work toward a final investment decision.
