- €224 million financing will build five waste recovery plants in Spain.
- Plants will be operational between 2026 and 2029.
- Total capacity exceeds 200,000 tonnes of waste annually.
- Waste converted into pyrolytic oil, char, and reusable materials.
Project Overview
Greene Enterprise has secured €224 million in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Santander to construct five innovative plants in Spain. These facilities will focus on converting non-recyclable waste into valuable industrial materials, supporting the circular economy and reducing CO2 emissions.
Technology and Capacity
The plants will utilize advanced pyrolysis technology to process over 200,000 tonnes of waste annually. This waste, which would otherwise be destined for landfills or incineration, will be transformed into pyrolytic oil, char, and other reusable materials for industrial use.
Timeline and Locations
Expected to be operational between 2026 and 2029, the plants are located in Muel, La Selva del Camp, San Cristóbal de Entreviñas, Madridejos, and As Somozas. The Valogreene CML Madridejos and Valogreene Recinor As Somozas plants are nearing completion and are slated for commissioning in 2026.
Economic Impact
The construction and operation of these plants will stimulate local economies and create employment opportunities. Each facility is projected to generate over 20 direct jobs and more than 40 indirect jobs, contributing to regional development.
Strategic Importance
The project aligns with the EU Circular Economy Action Plan and the EIB’s strategic priorities for climate action and regional cohesion. Two of the plants have been designated as priority interest projects by the autonomous communities of Aragón and Galicia, highlighting their strategic significance.
