Project Overview
SkyNRG has achieved financial close for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant, DSL-01, located in Delfzijl, Netherlands. The facility will produce 100,000 tonnes of SAF and 35,000 tonnes of sustainable by-products annually, using Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology.
Environmental Impact
The SAF produced will initially offer a lifecycle greenhouse gas reduction of approximately 80% compared to fossil jet fuel, with potential to exceed 90% through increased electrification and reduced natural gas use.
Timeline and Construction
With all permits approved and financing secured, construction has commenced, and the plant is expected to be operational by mid-2028. This marks the transition from development to construction after a seven-year planning period.
Stakeholders and Financing
KLM is the primary off-taker for the SAF, supporting its sustainability goals and compliance with European regulations. The project is backed by a consortium of investors, including KLM, Macquarie Group, and APG. Evercore acted as the sole equity financing advisor, with Clifford Chance as the legal advisor. Technip Energies is the EPC contractor, leading a team of global and national suppliers.
Global Expansion
In addition to DSL-01, SkyNRG is developing Project Wigeon in the USA with Boeing and Project SkyKraft in Sweden with Skellefteå Kraft, focusing on e-SAF production from renewable electricity, green hydrogen, and biogenic CO2.
