Sinopec Beidou oil and gas field technology and terminal R&D project passes MIIT acceptance
- Project launched in 2024 and has passed review and acceptance by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
- Developed 8 product categories encompassing 34 Beidou terminal products.
- Led formulation of 34 Beidou standards and specifications and built the only Beidou testing laboratory in the oil and gas industry.
- Deployed in 104 enterprises with nearly 130,000 terminals delivering over 150 million location services per day across 40 application scenarios.
Project scope and organisation
The oil and gas field Beidou technology and terminal products R&D application demonstration project is a 'one-stop' initiative under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. The programme focuses on strengthening industrial foundation reconstruction and independent control of key core technologies to promote collaborative innovation across complete systems and basic products and integration across upstream, midstream and downstream segments.
Launched in 2024, the project was led by Sinopec and implemented through a partnership model: the Sinopec Beidou Operation Service Center working with Shengli Oilfield, Tianjin Petrochemical, Sales Central China, Beihang University, Wuhan University, Beijing Zhongwei Association Beidou Spatiotemporal Technology Research Institute and other units. The operation mechanism follows 'group company overall management, enterprises responsible for application, Beidou center providing services.'
Deliverables and deployment
The consortium overcame technical challenges and established the only Beidou testing laboratory in the oil and gas industry. It successively developed 8 categories and 34 Beidou terminal products, led the formulation of 34 Beidou standards and specifications, and promoted application across 104 enterprises.
The project created 40 typical application scenarios—including personnel positioning, vehicle and ship monitoring, inspection and patrol, geological disaster monitoring and emergency communication—supporting nearly 130,000 Beidou terminals and providing over 150 million location services per day across the entire upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas chain, yielding significant economic and social benefits.
