Reactivation and modernisation

Cimpor has reactivated and modernised the Sines Grinding Plant Production Centre following a technological conversion process, an investment presented in June that supports the company’s decarbonisation strategy and regional economic development.

Production focus and capacity

The facility resumed operations focused on the production of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS), a raw material used to make cement and concrete with a lower carbon footprint. The plant has the capacity to process more than 400,000 tonnes per year and began operations with 2,500 tonnes already ready for dispatch.

Location and local impact

Situated close to the Port of Sines, the plant benefits from easier receipt of raw materials and distribution to domestic and international markets. The reactivation also contributes to the local economy through job creation and the involvement of regional companies and suppliers, and further reinforces the Sines region and ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone as an industrial and logistics hub.
