Agreement Details
RWE Supply & Trading and Texas LNG Brownsville LLC, part of Glenfarne Group, have signed a 20-year sales and purchase agreement for one million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This equates to approximately 13 LNG cargoes and 1.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.
Facility and Delivery
LNG will be supplied from the Texas LNG export facility, which Glenfarne will construct at the Port of Brownsville, Texas. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2030 and can be shipped by RWE to locations in Europe and worldwide.
Environmental Considerations
The Texas LNG facility will utilize electric drive motors for LNG production, making it one of the lowest-emitting LNG terminals globally. The agreement includes a framework for monitoring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas emissions from the wellhead to LNG loading, supporting emission reduction across the LNG value chain.
Previous Contracts
This agreement marks RWE's second long-term LNG supply contract from the U.S. In 2022, RWE signed a 15-year contract with Sempra Infrastructure for approximately 2.25 million tonnes per annum of LNG from the Port Arthur LNG Terminal in Texas, expected to start operations in 2027.
