Contract Details
ORLEN Kolej, Poland's second-largest rail freight operator, has signed a contract exceeding PLN 800 million for 40 new locomotives. The order is awarded to Polish manufacturers PESA and Newag.
Delivery and Specifications
The locomotives will be delivered between 2027 and 2028. PESA will supply 20 Gama locomotives, while Newag will provide 20 Dragon 2 locomotives. Both models feature engines rated at 5.6 MW and 5 MW, respectively, and consume around 30% less energy than older models.
Operational Enhancements
The locomotives include 'last mile' modules for non-electrified sections, enhancing operational flexibility. They are equipped with modern safety systems, advanced diagnostics, and features to improve crew comfort and safety.
Financing and Economic Impact
The project is financed through an operating lease provided by PKO Leasing. The investment supports ORLEN Kolej's logistics needs and is part of a rail infrastructure modernization program, aiming to replace diesel units with modern electric locomotives.
