Innovation Fund grant
PureCycle signed a €40 million grant agreement with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) under the Innovation Fund; CINEA reported 54 projects selected in the 2024 call totaling €2.7 billion.
Project scope
Project "ASTRA PP" will install a polypropylene (PP) dissolution recycling facility in the NextGen District at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, designed for annual output of 59,000 tonnes (130 million lbs) of PureFive® resin using the patented P&G dissolution technology licensed to PureCycle.
Policy and compliance
The project supports decarbonization and circularity objectives under the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan and the Clean Industrial Deal, and aims to help customers meet EU recycled-content requirements such as the Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR).
Environmental impact and funding
Under the Innovation Fund's methodology the facility is expected to deliver an 85% greenhouse gas emissions avoidance versus fossil-based PP production; PureCycle has also applied for additional Flemish regional funding for the ASTRA PP project.
