POSCO Future M agrees KRW 6 trillion LFP supply contract with Samsung SDI
- KRW 6 trillion long-term contract to supply LFP cathode materials to Samsung SDI.
- Agreement increases volumes to more than double the August deal for 190,000 tons of LFP planned for 2027–2032.
- Product scope broadened from NCA to include LFP and LMO cathodes and synthetic graphite anode materials.
- POSCO Future M expects about a 45% rise in supply volume versus current levels and will help Samsung SDI secure non‑PFE materials.
Contract terms
POSCO Future M signed a long-term supply contract to deliver KRW 6 trillion worth of LFP cathode materials to Samsung SDI, consolidating individual product contracts into the first integrated supply agreement between the two companies.
Product scope and volumes
The agreement amends a 2023 contract that covered NCA only and expands the product range to include LFP and LMO cathodes plus synthetic graphite anodes. It sharply increases volumes to more than double an August arrangement for 190,000 tons of LFP scheduled for 2027–2032. POSCO Future M anticipates overall supply volume will rise about 45% from existing levels.
Strategic implications
Samsung SDI gains access to non‑PFE cathode and anode materials, strengthening procurement stability. POSCO Future M will use the confirmed volumes to raise plant utilization, plan facility expansion and raw‑material procurement with greater precision. The two companies expect the partnership to support a K‑battery value chain and boost competitiveness in ESS and EV markets.
