Project overview
Phelan Green's Phelan eFuels will build an electro‑sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) facility in Saldanha Bay as part of the R47 billion (≈US$2.5bn) Phelan Green Hydrogen Project, which has been recognized by the South African government as a nationally strategic green industrial development.
Technology and output
The facility will use Honeywell UOP Fischer Tropsch Unicracking to convert Fischer‑Tropsch liquids and waxes derived from captured CO2 into aviation‑grade eSAF, targeting production of more than 140,000 tonnes for EU and UK markets.
Schedule and impact
Construction is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026; the project is expected to support thousands of local jobs across multiple phases and help position South Africa as a competitive export hub for next‑generation aviation fuels.
