Petrogas selects Worley for Abeona CCS pre‑FEED

Key highlights
  • Petrogas appointed Worley to deliver the pre‑FEED for the Abeona CCS project in the Dutch North Sea.
  • Abeona will provide CO2 transport and permanent storage for hard‑to‑abate industrial emitters in the North Sea Canal Area and other Dutch regions.
  • The project may reuse an existing pipeline to move CO2 from the Port of Amsterdam to offshore depleted oil reservoirs for injection.
  • Worley will refine the development concept, reduce execution risk, produce cost estimates and integrate facilities and pipeline systems ahead of FEED.

Project

The Abeona Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project will develop CO2 transport and permanent storage for hard‑to‑abate industrial emitters in the North Sea Canal Area and other regions in the Netherlands. The development will use a combination of repurposed offshore infrastructure and new facilities to store captured CO2 permanently in depleted offshore reservoirs.

Scope of pre‑FEED

Worley has been selected to deliver the pre‑front‑end engineering design (pre‑FEED). The pre‑FEED will refine the development concept, establish a technical foundation, reduce execution risk and deliver cost estimates for subsequent project phases.

Infrastructure and transport

The project may reuse an existing pipeline to transport CO2 from the Port of Amsterdam to offshore storage sites, where it will be injected into depleted oil reservoirs.

Delivery approach

Worley will integrate key project elements to align facilities and pipeline systems, supporting a coordinated pre‑FEED delivery and enabling a more efficient transition into the FEED phase. The firm cited its experience in North Sea offshore developments and CCS as relevant to the award.
