Petrobras discovers oil in ultra‑deep Morpho well off Amapá
- Discovery in Morpho well (1-BRSA-1405-APS) in block FZA-M-59.
- Located in ultra-deep water off Amapá at 2,886 metres water depth.
- This follow-up to an August 2026 discovery was identified via electrical logs, rock indications and fluid samples.
- Analyses are ongoing and will be integrated with the drilling dataset; the August discovery already shows good-quality oil.
What was found
Petrobras reached a new oil-bearing interval in the Morpho well (1-BRSA-1405-APS), a discovery in block FZA-M-59 located in ultra-deep waters off the Amapá coast at a water depth of 2,886 metres.
How it was identified
The result follows continued drilling after a discovery announced in August 2026 and was identified using electrical logs, rock indications and fluid samples acquired during operations.
Next steps
Analyses of collected material are in progress and will be characterized through laboratory work and integrated with the dataset from drilling. Petrobras will conclude the well-drilling activities and proceed with evaluation of the identified formations, stating the work will be done safely and with respect for the environment and people.
Strategic context
The new finding expands knowledge of the Foz do Amazonas Sedimentary Basin, will inform evaluation of petroleum systems and resource potential, and aligns with Petrobras' long-term strategy to replenish reserves by exploring new frontiers to help meet national energy demand.
