Perpetual Next Forms US and Europe Biomethanol Partnerships

Key highlights
  • Perpetual Next secured feedstock for 440,000 tonnes of biomethanol annually in the US and Europe.
  • A joint venture in Florida will use wood waste for biomethanol production, with feedstock secured until 2050.
  • In Estonia, production will increase to 220,000 tonnes with new torrefaction reactors, quadrupling output.
  • INGKA Investments will supply wood residues in Estonia, enhancing production efficiency and EBITDA.

Biomethanol Production Expansion

Perpetual Next has secured raw materials for producing 440,000 tonnes of biomethanol annually in the US and Europe. The biomethanol will be derived from low-grade carbon sources, primarily wood waste, serving as a sustainable alternative to fossil-based methanol in the chemical industry.

US Developments

In the US, a joint venture was finalized on June 12 for a biomethanol plant in Florida, utilizing wood waste as the main feedstock. Perpetual Next's torrefaction technology will convert low-grade wood waste into high-grade carbon for biomethanol production. An agreement with Veransa ensures feedstock supply until 2050. Preparations are underway in Belgium to optimize plant infrastructure and automation, serving as a blueprint for the US facility.

European Initiatives

In Europe, Perpetual Next is expanding its operations in Estonia to produce 220,000 tonnes of biomethanol. On March 27, an agreement with TSI was signed for the world's largest torrefaction reactors, quadrupling production capacity. The new reactors will enhance production volume with lower investment, leading to higher EBITDA. Coordination with local authorities is ongoing for infrastructure adaptation.

Strategic Partnerships

On July 5, INGKA Investments agreed to supply wood residues in Estonia, supporting increased production. The collaboration extends an existing agreement, aligning with Perpetual Next's strategy to boost biomethanol output efficiently.
