ORLEN Opens Hydrogen Refuelling Station in Piła

Key highlights
  • ORLEN's Piła station offers 480 kg daily hydrogen capacity.
  • The Clean Cities project received over EUR 2 million from the CEF Transport Blending Facility.
  • Phase III plans 16 more hydrogen stations with EUR 62 million EU funding.
  • ORLEN aims for 1 GW electrolyser capacity by 2030.

New Hydrogen Station in Piła

ORLEN has opened its fifth hydrogen refuelling station in Poland, located in Piła. This facility supports both public and private transport, offering a daily capacity of 480 kilograms of hydrogen. It is equipped with two dispensers operating at 350 bar and 700 bar, capable of refuelling up to 10 buses and 30 passenger cars daily. The station is accessible 24/7.

Support for Low-Emission Transport

The station will supply 219 thousand kilograms of hydrogen to the local municipal transport company, aiding the development of low-emission transport in the region. This initiative is part of the Clean Cities – Hydrogen Mobility in Poland (Phase II) project, which secured over EUR 2 million in funding from the CEF Transport Blending Facility.

Future Expansion Plans

Phase III of the project plans the construction of 16 additional hydrogen stations, with ORLEN receiving EUR 62 million in EU funding to accelerate the hydrogen network's development. The ORLEN Group aims to reach approximately 1 GW of electrolyser capacity by 2030, producing over 130 thousand tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually.

Broader Hydrogen Network

ORLEN is expanding its hydrogen refuelling network across Poland, with stations already operational in Poznań, Katowice, Wałbrzych, and Włocławek. New stations are under development in Gdynia, Płock, Bielsko-Biała, and Gorzów Wielkopolski, as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), facilitating travel across Poland and Europe.
