Agreement

On 25 June 2026 ONGC and bp signed a Technical Services Contract appointing bp as the Technical Services Provider for ONGC’s fields in the Western Offshore Basin.

Scope and objectives

The Western Offshore Basin comprises 43 blocks and is ONGC’s most prolific hydrocarbon-producing basin. bp will work with ONGC’s multidisciplinary teams to identify and implement focused interventions across reservoirs, wells and production facilities, deploying advanced technologies, global technical expertise and best-in-class operating practices to moderate production decline, improve hydrocarbon recovery and operational efficiency, and support sustained production growth. ONGC will retain complete ownership and operational control of the assets.

Commercial terms

Under the contract bp will receive a fixed fee for the first two years, followed by a service fee linked to a percentage share of revenue generated from net incremental hydrocarbon production.

Background and early results

The agreement builds on a Technical Services Contract for Mumbai High signed in February 2025; during the first year of that collaboration the companies moderated production decline and delivered growth through optimisation of existing wells, enhanced surveillance and targeted reservoir, well and facility-management initiatives. ONGC’s chairman Arun Kumar Singh and bp India chairman Kartikeya Dube commented on expected improvements in recovery, efficiency and India’s energy security.
