Facility Expansion
Mura Technology is set to develop a 50 kilotonnes per annum (kta) advanced recycling facility in Singapore, marking a significant step in its Asian expansion. This facility will join existing operations in Japan and South Korea, and Mura's UK site, aiming for a combined output of 60kta of liquid circular hydrocarbons by 2025.
Strategic Location
The new facility will be located on Jurong Island within the Singapore Essential Chemicals Complex, leveraging site rights secured from PCS Pte. Ltd. This location offers integrational advantages, including direct pipeline connections to potential customers and access to skilled personnel.
Recycling Goals
The Singapore facility is designed to process over 60,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, with plans to expand to 100kta. It will support Singapore's Zero Waste Masterplan, which targets a 70% recycling rate by 2030, by converting local and regional plastic waste into premium circular feedstocks.
Technology and Impact
Mura's Hydro-PRT technology will be employed to efficiently convert plastic waste into circular hydrocarbons, which can be used to produce virgin-quality recycled plastics. This process uses supercritical water, distinguishing it from other recycling methods like pyrolysis, and can handle contaminated and mixed plastics. The technology aims to reduce reliance on fossil resources and enhance material circularity in the plastics industry.
