LKAB raises mineral resources by 900 million tonnes to 7.2 billion tonnes

Key highlights
  • Mineral Resources increased ~900 Mt in 2025 to a combined 7.2 Gt, driven by ~770 Mt at Malmberget.
  • Mineral Reserves totalled ~0.9 Gt at end-2025; Kiruna 544 Mt (-7%), Malmberget 322 Mt (-5%), Leveäniemi 79 Mt (-7%).
  • Per Geijer contains ~1.3 Gt of iron ore and phosphorus plus an Inferred 2.2 Mt in situ of rare earth oxides at higher grades.
  • EU granted CRMA strategic status to LKAB’s Luleå critical-minerals park, Gällivare apatite extraction and the Per Geijer deposit.

Summary

Exploration in 2025 added ~900 Mt to Mineral Resources (exclusive of Reserves), producing an inclusive combined total of 7.2 billion tonnes; Mineral Reserves were ~0.9 billion tonnes at year‑end 2025.

Mine-level changes

Most of the resource increase occurred at Malmberget (~770 Mt); Malmberget reports ~2.7 Gt (≈+40%), Kiruna Resources ~1.1 Gt (+3%), Gruvberget (Svappavaara) ~0.9 Gt (+1%). Reported Mineral Reserves: Kiruna 544 Mt (‑7%), Malmberget 322 Mt (‑5%), Leveäniemi 79 Mt (‑7%).

Per Geijer deposit

Per Geijer contains ~1.3 Gt of iron ore and phosphorus and an Inferred in‑situ rare earth oxides (REO) resource of 2.2 Mt at grades higher than LKAB’s other deposits.

Critical minerals and regulation

LKAB’s ores contain phosphorus and all 17 rare earth elements; several rare earths are classified as strategic by the EU. The European Commission granted strategic status under the CRMA to LKAB’s Luleå critical‑minerals park, the Gällivare apatite extraction project and the Per Geijer deposit.
