Project Overview
Lahti Energia Oy and Nordic Ren-Gas Oy have signed a project development agreement for the Lahti Power-to-Gas plant. This facility will produce renewable methane, green hydrogen, and district heating, marking a significant step in Finland's green hydrogen initiatives.
Project Details
The agreement outlines the main terms of project development, including the use of flue gases and the supply of carbon dioxide-free district heating. Ren-Gas is responsible for advancing the project towards a final investment decision and construction.
Production and Environmental Impact
Once completed, the plant will produce 35,000 tons of synthetic methane annually, using 110,000 tons of CO2 recovered from the Kymijärvi power plant. The process heat will be utilized as district heat, reducing reliance on combustion-based heating.
Timeline and Market Context
The environmental impact assessment has begun, with construction expected to start in 2024 and commercial production by 2026. The demand for domestic clean gas has increased, creating a favorable market environment for the project.
