Overview

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has launched Carbonbid, a tendering process to fund projects that reduce CO2e emissions in the port area. The initiative aims to achieve maximum emission reduction at minimal cost.

Eight projects have been selected to collectively reduce 575,000 tonnes of CO2e over four years. The Port Authority will allocate €3.5 million, averaging €6 per tonne of CO2e reduced.

Selected Projects

The winning companies include Xirqulate, Real1ze, ECT, Steinweg, Celsius, Fleet Robotics, Den Bosch / Nijmegen Max, and Kalmar. These projects focus on innovative solutions like processing contaminated sludge, mobile ship degassing, and converting diesel equipment to electric.

Selection Process

Out of 54 submitted plans, 20 were shortlisted based on feasibility and cost-effectiveness. A panel of experts and accountancy firm EY assessed the proposals, with eight projects ultimately selected for funding.
