New PPAs in Spain

Microsoft and Iberdrola have signed two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) in Spain, marking their first such collaboration in Europe. These agreements cover a total of 150 MW of contracted power from the Iglesias wind farm in Burgos and the El Escudo wind farm in Cantabria.

Existing US Agreements

The new PPAs add to three existing agreements between Microsoft and Avangrid, Iberdrola's US subsidiary. These include Powell Creek Solar in Ohio, Camino Solar in California, and the Juniper Canyon wind farm in Washington. Together, the companies have PPA contracts for approximately 500 MW of capacity across the United States and Europe.

Technological Collaboration

The partnership also involves expanding the use of Microsoft's Azure cloud platform and deploying Microsoft Copilot, along with security and regulatory compliance solutions. This aims to enhance Iberdrola's digital capabilities and AI use across its operations.

Exploring New Opportunities

The alliance will explore further collaboration in renewable energy supply, including utilizing residual heat in Spain, carbon credits, and technological innovations like hydrogen and battery storage. These efforts will involve Iberdrola and its subsidiaries in Europe, the US, Brazil, and Australia.
