Honeywell Technologies to license and engineer GPIC aromatics complex in Bahrain

Key highlights
  • Facility to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene and 500,000 metric tons of benzene annually.
  • Project will be developed at GPIC’s existing industrial complex in Sitra, Bahrain.
  • Uses naphtha hydrotreating, CCR Platforming™ and LDPX Aromatics Complex process technologies.
  • Honeywell Technologies UOP will provide licensing, engineering, catalysts, adsorbents and equipment, building on prior collaborations with GPIC.

Project overview

Honeywell Technologies has been selected by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) to provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex at GPIC’s industrial complex in Sitra, Bahrain. The facility is intended to supply petrochemical feedstocks used across consumer and industrial applications.

Capacity and process technologies

The complex is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons per year of paraxylene and 500,000 metric tons per year of benzene. The design will use proven process technologies, including naphtha hydrotreating, CCR Platforming™ and the LDPX Aromatics Complex configuration.

Scope and partnership

Honeywell Technologies UOP’s scope includes licensing, engineering and associated engineering services, plus catalysts, adsorbents and equipment. The announcement notes an existing relationship between the two firms, citing previous collaborations on pressure swing adsorption technology, adsorbents and process automation at GPIC’s ammonia and methanol facilities.
