- Engie will develop two projects in Le Havre's industrial port area.
- SALAMANDRE will produce 11,000 tons of biomethane annually by 2027.
- KerEAUzen will produce 70,000 tons of e-kerosene annually using 250 MW electrolysis.
- 270,000 tons of CO₂ will be recycled annually from SALAMANDRE and local manufacturers.
Project Overview
HAROPA PORT and Engie have signed an agreement to allocate 24 hectares on the Grand Canal turnkey industrial site in Le Havre, France. Engie, selected through a call for projects by HAROPA PORT in March 2022, will develop two innovative projects in the industrial port area.
SALAMANDRE Project
The SALAMANDRE project involves the creation of an industrial and commercial biomethane production unit. This unit will utilize dry biomass from local wood-waste and solid recovered fuel to produce synthetic biomethane, primarily for shipping partner CMA CGM. The project aims to produce 11,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually, which is expected to avoid around 60,000 tons of CO2 emissions compared to fossil natural gas. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
KerEAUzen Project
The KerEAUzen project focuses on producing synthetic fuels for air transport and green chemistry. This unit will generate e-kerosene, e-naphtha, and e-hydrogen using renewable hydrogen produced by a 250 MW electrolysis unit and CO₂ captured from the industrial port area, facilitated by the SALAMANDRE project. The annual production target for kerosene is approximately 70,000 tons, combining recycled local CO₂ and renewable hydrogen. On average, 270,000 tons of CO₂ from SALAMANDRE and local manufacturers will be recycled each year. Air France will be the main consumer of the produced e-kerosene for its Roissy Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
