Inauguration and agreement

Eni inaugurated a new platforming unit at the Refinery of Luanda and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sonangol to provide continuity of support for further expansion and modernization activities at the facility.

Capacity and process changes

The modernization project increases the refinery's gasoline production capacity fourfold to 450,000 tonnes per year. The new platforming unit produces hydrogen that now feeds a rehabilitated combined cycle, allowing power generation by recycling gas and contributing to a net reduction in pollutant emissions.

Workforce and training

The project created jobs and included training for more than 100 Sonangol employees, who were trained by Eni in Milan, Sannazzaro, Livorno, Taranto and Luanda.

Future backing

The MoU will be supported by Azule Energy — the joint venture formed by Eni and bp in March 2022 — after completion of that transaction and subject to antitrust clearances.
