EIF investment
The European Investment Fund (EIF), part of the EIB Group, has committed €200 million to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II) to scale biomethane and advanced bioenergy production across Europe.
Fund scope and targets
ABF II targets a €1.5 billion fund size and will invest primarily in the development, construction and operation of industrial‑scale biogas plants based on anaerobic digestion, focusing on greenfield projects with a differentiated pipeline that provides visibility on capital deployment.
Project specifics
Projects will convert feedstocks such as manure and agricultural waste into biomethane compatible with existing gas infrastructure and aimed at decarbonising sectors including industry and maritime transport.
Markets and support
The fund is concentrated on core European markets including Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Belgium and Finland and combines public and private capital; the EIF investment is backed by the EU’s InvestEU and REPowerEU initiatives to boost domestic renewable gas production and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.
