TotalEnergies approves development of Cronos gas field in Cyprus
- TotalEnergies and Eni (50/50) have taken FID to develop the Cronos gas discovery in Cyprus Block 6.
- Cronos will be developed with four subsea wells and a subsea pipeline to Egypt, where gas will be liquefied at the Damietta LNG terminal.
- Plateau production is expected at ~500 Mcf/d, equivalent to ~2.8 Mtpa of LNG, with start-up targeted in 2028.

Project decision and background
TotalEnergies (50%) and Eni (50%, operator) have taken the Final Investment Decision to develop the Cronos gas field, discovered in 2022 and appraised in 2024, in Cyprus Block 6.
Development concept and route to market
Cronos will be developed via four subsea wells with a subsea pipeline from Cypriot waters to Egypt. Gas will be liquefied at the Damietta LNG terminal for export to Europe, relying on existing Egyptian facilities to fast-track start-up and lower production carbon intensity.
Production profile and commercial terms
Production start-up is expected in 2028 with a plateau of about 500 million cubic feet per day, roughly 2.8 million tonnes of LNG per year. TotalEnergies will market 50% of the LNG. Main commercial and contractual agreements cover use of Zohr offshore facilities, transit through Egypt, liquefaction at Damietta and LNG sales.
Outlook
The project could enable appraisal and development of additional resources in Block 6 during future campaigns and is presented as contributing to a regional Eastern Mediterranean gas hub and diversification of LNG supply to Europe.
