China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (CMHI) is a major Chinese shipyard and marine engineering equipment manufacturer specializing in high-end offshore and marine construction. Founded in 2013 in Haimen District, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, it designs, builds, and repairs specialized vessels and equipment including FPSO hulls, self-elevating and semi-submersible drilling platforms, LNG carriers, pipe-laying ships, heavy-lift vessels, and luxury cruise ships.
The company forms part of the Haimen Base alongside China Merchants Cruise Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., both wholly owned subsidiaries of China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. (CMI). CMI itself operates under the state-owned China Merchants Group (CMG), positioning CMHI within one of China’s three leading shipbuilding and repair conglomerates with facilities across multiple regions and international presence.
CMHI has completed more than 50 high-end projects with cumulative sales approaching 30 billion yuan. It has delivered China’s first polar expedition cruise ship, the main hull of the world’s largest self-built FPSO, and various advanced drilling platforms. The yard maintains large dry docks up to 500,000-ton capacity and focuses on technological innovation with hundreds of patents. It serves global clients, including recent FPSO hull contracts awarded by Saipem for projects in Indonesia’s Kutei Basin and Angola.
As a key player in China’s marine equipment sector, CMHI emphasizes high-end, differentiated products and contributes to the country’s offshore energy and maritime industries through its integration into the broader CMG structure.
