Expansion at Dormagen
Covestro has initiated the construction of additional production lines for high-quality polycarbonate films at its Dormagen site. These new coextrusion lines are expected to be completed by the end of 2020, addressing the rising demand for these materials. The expansion is projected to create over 50 new jobs.
Technological Advancements
The new production lines will be equipped with the latest technology, enhancing Covestro's ability to supply customers more quickly and with higher quality products. These advancements will also support faster market readiness for ongoing projects. The lines are designed for producing multi-layer flat films, which are crucial for embedding security features in identity documents and are also used in car interiors.
Global Capacity Expansion
This investment is part of a broader global capacity expansion strategy announced last year, aimed at meeting growing demand across all regions and strengthening Covestro's market position. The total planned investment exceeds 100 million euros and includes enhancements to infrastructure and logistics to reduce delivery times. Globally, the expansion is expected to create over 100 new jobs.
Competence Centers
The Dormagen site serves as a competence center for polycarbonate flat films, featuring production facilities, a technical center for film processing, a showroom, and research laboratories. Covestro's other German competence centers are located in Leverkusen and Bomlitz, specializing in film coating and thermoplastic elastomer films, respectively.
