Coolbrook joins HILT CRC to accelerate heavy-industry electrification and decarbonisation
- Coolbrook has joined the HILT CRC as an Affiliate Partner to collaborate on low-carbon industrial production.
- Consortium links Coolbrook’s RDH technology with industry partners including Emirates Global Aluminium, Alcoa, Rio Tinto, South32 and Hydro, plus CSIRO and Adelaide University.
- Initial engagement will target HILT CRC’s AlumiNEXT project to explore electrification of high-temperature alumina calcination.
- Coolbrook will assess the technical and economic potential of RDH and engage industrial partners on future commercial deployment.
Partnership
Coolbrook has joined the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) as an Affiliate Partner to work with global industry and research leaders on low-carbon industrial production.
Scope and collaborators
The affiliation links Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) technology with major mining and alumina/aluminium producers—Emirates Global Aluminium, Alcoa, Rio Tinto, South32 and Hydro—and research organisations including CSIRO and Adelaide University to advance electrification and decarbonisation efforts.
Project focus
Coolbrook’s initial engagement will concentrate on HILT CRC’s AlumiNEXT research project, which is exploring pathways to decarbonise alumina production, notably the electrification of high-temperature calcination processes.
Executive comments
Coolbrook’s Chief Commercial Officer Lauri Peltola said the partnership provides a route to explore new applications for RDH in alumina calcination, assess technical and economic viability, and work with industrial partners on commercial deployment. HILT CRC CEO Jenny Selway said adding Coolbrook strengthens the consortium’s solution set and helps identify where the technology can deliver greatest value and what is needed for industrial-scale implementation.
