Coolbrook and ABB advance RotoDynamic Heater to industrial delivery for Adani Cement
- First industrial-scale RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) deployment at Adani Cement’s Boyareddypalli Integrated Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh.
- ABB awarded the electrical equipment scope, supplying drives, motors, an e-house and integrating ABB Ability™ System 800xA® DCS.
- RDH supplies clean high-temperature heat to dry feedstock and boost the heating value of alternative/waste fuels used in calcination.
- The deployment is expected to reduce about 60,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, with potential for further increases.
Industrial delivery
Coolbrook and ABB have entered the industrial delivery phase of their partnership to deploy Coolbrook's RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) at Adani Cement’s Boyareddypalli Integrated Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. The installation is presented as the first industrial-scale deployment of the RDH system.
Scope and equipment
Coolbrook has awarded ABB the electrical equipment scope for the RDH project. ABB will provide drives, motors, an e-house and other key electrical components and integrate the equipment with ABB Ability System 800xA distributed control system (DCS) to enable safe, reliable and high-performance operation.
Purpose and emissions impact
The RDH is intended to provide clean, high-temperature heat to dry material and enhance the heating value of alternative and waste-derived fuels used in the calcination phase of cement production, allowing a higher share of sustainable fuels in the energy mix. The deployment is expected to directly reduce approximately 60,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, with scope for further increases.
Strategic significance
Both companies frame the project as part of a broader push to electrify high-temperature industrial processes: Coolbrook highlights scalability for industrial decarbonization, while ABB emphasises its role in delivering the electrification systems and controls needed to meet industry performance, safety and reliability requirements.
