Approval and commissioning

On October 27 the Jiangsu industrial-grade provincial virtual power plant — the first from a central state-owned enterprise — passed the load test supervised by the Nanjing Load Control Center of State Grid and obtained an operator account authorized by the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

Scope and operators

The project was developed, built and is operated by Carbon Technology Company and covers six resident enterprises in Jiangsu: Jiangsu Oilfield, East China Oil and Gas Company, Jinling Petrochemical, Yangzi Petrochemical, Yizheng Chemical Fibre and Nanhua Company.

Operational capabilities

The provincial virtual power plant facilitates renewable energy consumption between oil and gas fields and refining and chemical enterprises within the province, improves the flexibility of electricity trading, and can increase, decrease or adjust load and electricity consumption curves during grid peak summer and winter periods and high-proportion renewable output periods.

Strategic outlook

The initiative promotes building a renewable energy consumption and carbon-energy management system of “provincial virtual power plant – enterprise-level industrial smart green microgrid – zero-carbon factory.” In future the virtual power plant can connect to various local electricity loads and energy storage devices to further expand the adjustable range and enhance cost-reduction effectiveness.
