Quinbrook and CATL advance Supernode after Stage 2 commercial operation and A$469m Stage 3 financing

Key highlights
  • Stage 2 reached commercial operation and Stage 3 closed A$469 million in debt financing, bringing total project financing to ~A$1.2 billion.
  • Supernode Stages 1–3 will total 780MW / 3,074MWh, with planned campus capacity expected to exceed 3 GWh and long-term offtake contracts in place.
  • CATL supplies EnerC Plus for Stages 1–2 and TENER S for Stage 3 and will provide lifecycle support under a Long‑Term Service Agreement.
  • Site at Brendale, adjacent to the South Pine substation, offers a favourable marginal loss factor position and ~4,000MW of available connection capacity for expansion.

Milestones and financing

Supernode has completed Stage 2 commercial operations and secured financial close for Stage 3 with A$469 million in debt financing. Across Stages 1–3 the project has attracted approximately A$1.2 billion of financing and has long-term offtake arrangements in place.

Capacity and site

The Brendale campus is set to exceed 3 GWh, with the first three stages delivering 780 MW / 3,074 MWh. The site is adjacent to the South Pine substation, providing a favourable marginal loss factor (MLF) position and roughly 4,000 MW of available connection capacity for phased expansion.

Technology and footprint

CATL is the core energy storage supplier across the campus, supplying EnerC Plus systems for Stages 1 and 2 and TENER S for Stage 3. EnerC Plus supports back‑to‑back installation, reducing the required site footprint by about 20% versus EnerC, and uses an integrated liquid‑cooling system that keeps internal container temperature differentials within 5°C.

Operations, services and future plans

CATL will support lifecycle operations under a Long‑Term Service Agreement covering condition monitoring, performance tracking, fault response and preventive maintenance. Quinbrook and CATL are also evaluating EnerQB, an eight‑hour battery solution, for potential future stages of Supernode.
