Pilot deployment
SLB Capturi’s Mobile Test Unit (MTU) was installed at a pulp mill on the U.S. Gulf Coast in Q3 2024 and operated on recovery boiler stack emissions for more than 4,000 hours. The MTU is designed for a nominal throughput of 3 tonnes of CO2 per day.
Performance results
The campaign achieved a consistent 95% capture rate for biogenic CO2 and met all key performance indicators cited by the partners, including energy consumption, solvent durability and absorber emissions. The pilot also validated a flue gas pretreatment system used to condition the recovery boiler exhaust prior to capture.
Commercial implications
SLB Capturi’s CEO described the test as confirming key process parameters and said the results indicate no technical barriers to deploying commercial-scale carbon capture at pulp and paper facilities. CO280 and SLB Capturi position the validated solution for wider application in the pulp and paper industry.
