Investment and Capacity
Bondalti has commenced operations at its new plant in Torrelavega, located in the Cantabria region of northern Spain. This facility represents a total investment of €60 million and positions Bondalti as the leading producer in the Chlor-Alcalis segment in the Iberian Peninsula. The plant has an installed capacity of 68,000 tonnes per year.
Production Focus
The new plant focuses on the production of chlorine, caustic soda, hydrogen, hydrochloric acid, and sodium hypochlorite. These chemicals are essential for various industries, including polyurethane and PVC production, water treatment and purification, textile manufacturing, pulp and paper production, aluminum processing, and the creation of cleaning products.
Technological Advancements
Located in one of the most significant industrial parks in the Iberian Peninsula, owned by Solvay, the Torrelavega plant benefited from nearly two years of dedicated work by Bondalti’s technicians and contracted teams. Their previous experience in the Estarreja unit was crucial for implementing advanced production practices, particularly chlorine production using membrane technology, known for its high energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Socio-Economic Impact
The establishment of the plant has a notable socio-economic impact on Torrelavega, a small town approximately 30 kilometers from Santander. The project has created 150 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the local community's economic development. This aligns with Bondalti's social sustainability policy, which prioritizes generating opportunities for the local population.
